Technical Writers - May 5,02 (Montreal, Que.) - reference 2-05-01

Our client has an immediate requirement for eight (8) technical writers. Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  -  Aircraft Experience,
  -  Knowledge of SGML, and
  -  Knowledge of ATA Specification.

Experience levels will range from junior/intermediate to very senior.
All positions are permanent.

Technical Writer - May 15, 02 (Montreal, Que.) - reference 2-05-02

The client is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to fill this permanent position.

Position Summary

  • Design and develop task-oriented and/or reference information that may be delivered as printed or online documentation, and which may comprise userís guides, release notes, tutorials, courseware, web content, or developerís guides.
  • A senior technical writer is responsible for managing his/her own individual projects, and may take on the role of lead writer on a project, in which he/she is responsible for coordinating the work of one or more other writers.


  • Does the research required to obtain information for end user documentation. Involves interviewing product specialists, engineers and testers, attending product demos and training sessions, getting information from R&D web pages.
  • Creates an outline for assigned documentation and writes, updates, and verifies assigned user guide chapters, release notes, online help, tutorials, courseware, or developerís guides.
  • Creates screen shots and illustrations as needed. Manages media.
  • Submits work for technical, peer, and editorial reviews, and enters revisions.
  • Participates in team meetings and contributes to the establishment of improved documentation processes.
  • May act as lead writer on a project, which includes participating in the planning and organization of the project; attending project meetings; coordinating, following up, and reviewing the work done on a project; coordinating technical review cycles, and arranging project team meetings.
  • Researches and analyze usersí information requirements, and design information products to meet those needs.
  • Coaches junior and intermediate writers on projects.
  • Acquires an overall knowledge of the product(s) he/she is responsible for documenting, and an understanding of how they relate to the entire product line.


  • B.Sc., BA, or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of experience in technical writing in a software or hardware environment.
  • Excellent writing skills; demonstrated ability in the use of the English language.
  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team.
  • Skill in researching, organizing, and presenting technical information.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, to meet deadlines, and to work under pressure.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Some project lead experience.

Desired Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of Windows operating system.
  • Familiarity with any of the following industries: broadcast, video production and post-production, 3D graphics and animation.
  • Knowledge of FrameMaker.
  • Experience developing online documentation
